Terrible situation, Burns won the Norris for the same reason that Karlsson lost it last year.... Karlsson got screwed both years.

Then we lose Methot when we should have made a deal for a pick or Ceci.

I donno, I was never a fan of PD but i'm even less of a fan of his now.

No kidding! Sens fans seem to think Karlsson is the only D worthy of the Norris and should win it every season regardless.

Glad Burns won it, he deserved it.

So, a lot of criticism has gone methots way in the past 24 hours. Most of it fair. But I find it interesting that I never heard any of this 6-12 months ago.

Claesson looks pretty good and I think he will continue to improve.

I agree that Methot is replaceable, but I think there's a bit of sour grapes going around in regards to this situation.

Meh, Karlsson already has two. And I doubt he's done.

Karlsson lost but its not a big deal! But finding him a partner is! From now until the draft with that 1st in his pocket in sure that he'll try and package it ,not a whole lot of value mind you! With a prospect and possibly a roster player? Which is a drag cause losing Methot, he could of used those assets for other areas! Best of luck guys

Honestly, it's a stupid award, it's not a "blow" that he didn't win it this year. The blow is losing a solid defender in Methot.

They are both blows. I mean at the end of his career stats are one thing but awards are another. stuff like that is remembered.

My non-biased opinion. Karlsson should of won it both years, and Doughty wasn't even top 3 last year. Karlsson is the best defenseman in the NHL and has been for quite a few years.

Did you read what Maverick wrote. Karlsson lost last year and they said he has to play better defensively and just not put up points.

He played a lot better defensively with the blocked shots, so now what? Burns slowed down his point production and 65 almost caught up

At least Burns was FAR more deserving than Doughty last year. Inevitably we watch for our team to win championships, not individual awards. If EK continues to be EK, and there's nothing indicating he won't, he'll still make the HoF (unless the voters screw him there too )

Sucks losing a commodity like Methot, but he wasn't a gamebreaker. Lots of backlash against Ceci, but it wasn't his choice for Dorion to protect him. If Ceci flounders again, that's on Dorion. Our fans have been unnecessarily harsh against him.

Phaneuf is different, though. If he doesn't perform, he'll rightfully deserve vitrol from Sens fans, since he refused to waive his NMC.

So why didn't Dory give Vegas the Sens 1st to protect both Methot and Ceci? I'm mean like if Methot was any good or Ceci for that matter! Are they not worth a 1st, or is it just preception? Cause having to pick 28th in a supposed weak draft! this 28th pick prospect MIGHT! play in the nhl?the kid MIGHT! play in3to5 years? So that's it going to cost now to replace Methot? That 1st doesn't have a lot of value on its own!! So a 1st, prospect, and a roster player not named Ryan! you see what I'm saying! Cause before the lost of Methot their was a hole in fill in this line up and those assets could of been used to accomplish that! But now their are two!

Well here, let me clarify. You don't get the trophy for a certain amount of points, or having your fans think you've improved defensively.

They award the trophy to who they've felt was the best overall defenseman in the league, that season. So, that would be what he would have to do. Be the best overall defenseman, in a season.

Now, karlson's fans have a tendency to scream and shout when anyone deems another dman to be better, but that's their opinion. You can disagree with it all you like.

But the fact that the body of NHL players agreed with the decision, when they voted Brent Burns as one of the best 3 players in the NHL this season, along with Sidney Crosby, and Connor McDavid, and karlson was not among the players they deemed to be among the best in the league this season, suggests to me, that they're may be a little validity to it.

So chill out. In the end, this little pieces of silver don't really matter compared to the big one that the Pens carried away. These little ones are footnotes, nothing more.

Jackpot.

Sens have Phaneuf, Claesson, Harpur and Chabot that can be expected to log time partnered with Karlsson.

Ottawa was getting very close to the cap. Big salary bumps coming. One of Phaneuf $7m or Methot $5m had to go. Both are the same age. Phaneuf is the better player and probably more physical as well. Methot has 2 years left on his deal and Phaneuf has 4. They are the same age.

I remember when people said Karlsson needed Kuba or Gonchar. Every time they have changed his partner he has brought his game to an even higher level.

Somebody might pay a very high price to get Methot from LV (I hear Dallas). And, then wonder why he does not play as well as he did in Ottawa.

It is about cap space and playing time with a bunch of players coming up for new contracts in the next two years. Either Methot or Phaneuf had to go.

Well aware of the cap! Thanks but it pisses me off cause this team has peices to continue to be good moving forward! White, Chabot off the top of my head,but the dmen you mentioned, idk if that's going to cut it or at least be enough? This team has an opportunity to get though some rounds in the playoffs and Pittsburgh has set the bench mark on what I'll take! Ottawa got close and imho need a top 4 dman and a forward to grind and score! Anyhow good luck moving forward and hopefully Dorion has a plan!

Based on the Ted Lindsay voting this appears to be incorrect.

Karlsson and Burns were neck and neck after the regular season so im not surprised Burns won. The playoffs is when Karlsson came into his own and stepped up his game to another level while people noticed. Next year Karlsson is gonna come out as the favourite and I see him and Hedman being finalists for the next 5-6 years.
